It’s a Go for "Fabian"

Shooting for Dominik Graf’s "Fabian", an adaptation of the eponymous Erich Kästner novel, began yesterday in the town of Görlitz. The cast includes Tom Schilling, Albrecht Schuch, Saskia Rosendahl, and Meret Becker. It is realized with the help of MDM funds totaling 510,000 euros.

Based on a screenplay by Constantin Lieb and Dominik Graf, "Fabian" is set in Berlin in the late 1920s, where Jakob Fabian, a literature scholar portrayed by Schilling, is making ends meet through a copywriting gig while his friend Labude (played by Schuch) is struggling to get his postdoctoral degree. Together, they let themselves get lost in the big city’s vibrant nightlife until Fabian meets and falls in love with the fiery Cornelia (played by Rosendahl), an aspiring actress.

"Fabian" is a co-produced by Lupa Film and DCM Pictures as well as ZDF/Arte public television networks. Amilux Film and Studio Babelsberg serve as Associate Producers. Apart from MDM, funding came from the Federal Commissioner for Cultural and Media Affairs, Medienboard, FFF Bavaria, and DFFF.

Shooting is scheduled to continue until mid-September at locations in Görlitz, Berlin, and Brandenburg. "Fabian" will be brought to movie theaters by DCM in 2020.
