"Anatolian Leopard" Wins Award at TIFF

This past weekend, the MDM-funded drama "Anatolian Leopard" won the FIPRESCI award at the 46th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The winner of the FIPRESCI award is picked by the eponymous association of film critics and film journalists.

"Anatolian Leopard", the first full-length feature film by Turkish director Emre Kayis, takes the viewer on a journey to an old zoo in rural Turkey. Zoo director Fikret, a lonely, disillusioned man in his mid-fifties, tries to prevent Qatari investors from converting the zoo into a theme park. The last roadblock is an old leopard which belongs to a protected subspecies. "Anatolian Leopard" is a co-production by Tato Film (Turkey) with Elemag Pictures (Gera, Germany), Adomeit Film (Denmark), and Donte & Lacroix Film (Poland). The film was co-funded by MDM, the Polish Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, and the Turkish State Department of Culture.

This film and "Bergman Island" by Mia Hansen-Løve made up a duo of MDM-funded films to be featured at the TIFF.
