"The Crossing" Featured at San Sebastián Film Festival

Following its world premiere in Annecy in June this year and its subsequent invitation to the Zlín International Film Festival for Children and Youth, the animated film "The Crossing" by Florence Miailhe is now being featured at the San Sebastián Film Festival.

The work, which was realized in the unique and challenging paint-on-glass animation technique, is a poignant story about the fate of refugees. One summer day, when their village is devastated and set on fire by paramilitary troops, thirteen-year-old Kyona, her twelve-year-old brother and their parents suddenly have to flee from their home. In the turmoil, the children become separated from their parents. Thus starts their dangerous odyssey, which lasts an entire year. "The Crossing" is a co-production by Les Films de l’Arlequin (France) and Dresden-based Balance Film, MAUR Film (Czech Republic) and MDR/Arte (German and German/French TV networks, respectively) and has been co-funded by MDM, FFA/Mini-Traité, DFFF (German Federal Film Fund), and Eurimages.

Last week, the film scooped up the Special Jury Prize for a Feature Film in the “Junior and Youth” category at the Zlín International Film Festival for Children and Youth. Previously it had already won a Jury Distinction (Mention du Jury) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

"The Crossing" will be brought to German cinemas by Grandfilm on January 20, 2022.
